2018-19

In the academic year 2018-2019, the essay competition is scheduled to start shortly. The theme for the 2018-19 edition is "Lessons for Modern India from Mahatma Gandhi". and It is targeted to reach out to 2725 schools and 1.36 million students in 83 cities-set of cities,

2017-18

In its 12 th edition the competition in English language is targeted to reach out to 12,50,000 students in 72 cities and 2500 schools. The theme for this year's competition is "New India @ 70 and your Contribution".

In its 11 th edition the competition in English language witnessed participation of nearly 1160585 students in 69 cities and 2323 schools,he theme for the competition was 'Global Warming and Climate Change'

2015-16

In its 10 th edition the competition in English language saw a participation of nearly 934000 students in 59 cities and 2117 schools. The evaluation process for selection of city level winners is completed and the winners were felicitated at events along with the Language winner’s events hosted at Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Chandigarh, Indore, Pune, Cochin, Lucknow & Kolkata.The theme for 2015-16 competition was "Digital Technology for a Better India".

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, and senior leaders from the Tata group, with the national winners of the 2015-16 edition of ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition’ at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on January 12, 2018.

The national winners of the 2015-16 edition of Tata Building India School Essay Competition got a chance to meet the Honorable President of India, Shri Ramnath Kovind, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi and got a once in lifetime opportunity to take a tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 12, 2018.

The young achievers were further felicitated by Mr. Harish Bhat, Brand Custodian, Tata Sons Ltd at a function held on the same day in New Delhi.

Glimpses of City level felicitation events hosted for the year 2014-15

 

2013-2014

The theme for 2013-14 competition was "Happy & Prosperous Nation" and in its 8th edition the competition in English language was launched in October 2013. Nearly 1.1 million students participated across 59 cities and 2190 schools. The National Level winners for 2013-14 were felicitated on 4 th Dec. 2015 at New Delhi.

 

2012-2013

The theme for 2012-13 competition was "Science & Technology for India" and in its 7th edition the competition in English language was launched in September 2012. Nearly 1.2 million students participated across 60 cities and 2500 schools. The National Level winners for 2012-13 were felicitated on 4 th Dec. 2015 at New Delhi.

 

2011-12

The theme for 2011-12 competition was "Clean and Green Nation" and in its 6th edition the competition in English language was launched in September 2011. Close to a million students participated across 52 cities and 2000+ schools. The winners at city level were felicitated in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar. The winners got an opportunity to meet the President on 2nd April 2013 and also got a once in a life time opportunity to see and admire the Rashtrapati Bhavan as a special guided tour was arranged for them The topic was "How can you keep place you live in your home, your school a neat and clean place".

 

2010-11

The 5th edition of this competition in the English language was launched in September, 2010. Close to a million students participated across 40+ cities and about 1800 schools. The city level winners were felicitated in October-December 2011. The national level winners for 2010-11 got an opportunity to meet the President on 2nd April 2013 and also got a once in a life time opportunity to see and admire the Rashtrapati Bhavan as a special guided tour was arranged for them.

 

2009-10

The 4th edition of the competition covered 36 cities where almost a million students across 1500 English medium schools participated. The theme of the competition was 'Future India'. 4 regional felicitation events were conducted in Oct- Nov 2010 where the city winners were felicitated. The national level winners were felicitated by Dr. E. Sreedharan-the Metro Man of India, at Delhi on 12th October 2011. The winners got a chance to travel on Delhi Metro trains and visit the metro museum, also got a once in a life time opportunity to see and admire the Rashtrapati Bhavan as a special guided tour was arranged for them.

 

2008-09

The competition took a quantum leap in the year 2008-09 as it moved from 12 to in 24 cities across the nation covering more than 800 schools and around 6 lakh students.

Four Regional awards ceremonies (Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi) were organized to jointly felicitate the city level winners from the region. National winners of 2008-09 from English and Hindi were jointly felicitated at a gala function in May 2010 in New Delhi.

The high-point of the achievement of these winners was the once in a lifetime opportunity that they got to interact with the Vice President of India, Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari along with a guided tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

 

2007-08

In the second year, 2007-08, the activity was extended by 6 more cities to 12 cities covering over 440 schools and reaching out to around 3 lakh students. The city level winners were felicitated in an award ceremony in all these 12 locations which was covered well by local media also. The national winners of the English essay competition for 2007-08 were felicitated by the Honorable President Mrs. Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The children along with the parents spent some time with the President and also got a once in a life time opportunity to see and admire the Rashtrapati Bhavan as a special guided tour was arranged for them.

 

2006: The Beginning

In the very first year in 2006, over 1 lakh students from 240 English medium schools across the top 6 cities of India participated in the essay writing competition. The participating cities were: New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad. The national winners then got the opportunity to also meet and interact with the then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, at a special function in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. During the meeting with the then President Dr. Kalam, Dr. APJ had encouraged the group to take the competition to interior India beyond metros and attempt the exercise in Indian languages.
