New Delhi, Apr 17 (PTI) President Droupadi Murmu on Monday asked children to dream big and try hard to realise their dreams. Addressing the winners of the 'Tata Building India School Essay Competition 2019-20', who had called on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan here, she appreciated the organisers for providing this platform for the young minds to showcase their ideas in writing on a specific topic of national importance or on social issues. Murmu said that it is a good initiative for igniting the imagination of the young and instilling a sense of pride and spirit of nation-building in the youth. Winners of the 2016-17 nationwide ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition’,&nbsp;called on the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, today (February 14, 2019) at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Rashtrapati Bhavan : 14.02.2019 Speaking on the occasion, the President congratulated the winners of the School Essay Competition.He noted that almost four million children from over 8,500 schools all over the country wrote an essay concerned with nation building in 13 languages. Among the 78 winners, he said, as many as 53 are girls. The President noted that children wrote essays on global warming and what can each one of us do to avert climate change and protect the natural environment. He said that this topic relates to one of the biggest challenges facing humankind. With so many children writing an essay on global warming and climate change, India, he felt, was investing in a generation that cares for the planet and our environment. TBI Press Release 2016-17 Pune Felicitation ﻿Pune, 7th December 2017::The Tata Group felicitated the city-level winners of English, Marathi and Urdu editions of the Tata Building India School Essay Competition 2016-17 at the MES Auditorium in Pune, today. The winners were shortlisted from over 3.4 lakh students across 699 schools from the states of Maharashtra and Goa. The theme for the 11th edition of the essay competition was ‘Global Warming and Climate Change’. 199 English medium schools from six cities participated in the English edition, while 500 schools from 15 cities participated in the Marathi edition of the essay competition. Winners were awarded trophies, gifts and certificates at the ceremony held in the presence of Prof. Khedkar, Officiating Vice Chancellor, Ajeenkya D.Y. National winners of 'Tata Building India School Essay Competition' meet the President of India

Held in 8 different languages, the fifth and sixth editions of India’s largest school essay competition attracted over 2 million students, each, from across 150 cities and over 5000 schools in India New Delhi, April 02, 2013: The Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, met and interacted with the national winners of the fifth and sixth editions of the ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition’, today, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. Adding to this once in a life time opportunity, the winning students, selected from across 150 cities in India, also got an opportunity to take a tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Congratulating the winners and boosting their morale, Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee said,” I would like to congratulate students and Tatas for organizing this essay writing competition. We are simply fascinated by your ideas expressed here. The constitutional promise of equality, liberty and justice can be realized when dreams of young minds are translated into reality. This initiative taken by Tatas to invite the young minds to write about how to build this country and transform socio-economic conditions is extremely welcome, further getting the young minds to express their views not only in English but also in regional languages. Students should be righteous, truthful and shouldn’t deviate from their conviction to achieve their goals.” Tata Building India School Essay Competition is a unique competition which gives young students a platform to pen down their thoughts and ideas on nation building. Launched in 2006, it is India’s largest national school essay competition that has inspired and reached out to 7.5 million students from class 6th to 12th, across the six editions. Held in 8 different languages - English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Oriya and Tamil, the fifth and sixth editions of the competition elicited enthusiastic participation from over 2 million students, each, from across 150 cities and over 5000 schools in India. The Tata group also felicitated the national winners from across the eight languages, at a ceremony held on the same day at The Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi. Mr. Bharat Wakhlu, Resident Director, Tata Services and Dr. Uma Tuli, Padma Shree awardee and the Founder &amp; Managing Secretary of Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust awarded the young achievers with the coveted Tata Building India trophy and a laptop each (please refer to the annexure for details of the winners). Sharing their fascinating experiences, Jasleen Kaur, Junior Winner of the Tata Building India English Essay Writing Competition 2011-12 said, “It was once in lifetime experience to visit Rashtrapati Bhavan and meet the President himself”. K. Sreeraj, Junior Winner of the Tata Building India English Essay Writing Competition 2010-11 expressed happiness about the enriching experience he had at the competition and said that the competition prompted him to think differently about the development of the country. Every year the Tata Building India School Essay Competition identifies an inspiring and challenging theme for the competition on topics of national relevance. The fifth edition (2010-11) of the competition encouraged young minds to express their thoughts on ‘Reducing poverty in India’ and suggest solutions towards the social objective. On the other hand, the sixth edition (2011-12) of the competition endeavoured to inspire the young change makers towards thinking on ‘How can you make the world you live in -- your home, your city, your nation -- a cleaner and greener place’. The winning essays featured impactful, thought provoking and radical ideas which showcased the vision, focus and conviction of the young minds of today. Going from strength to strength, the seventh edition (2012-13) of the competition has further expanded its reach to 170 cities in India, covering over 6000 schools and adding two new languages namely Telugu and Malayalam to the existing 8 languages. The TBI School Essay Competition is a two-phased activity in participating schools. In the first phase, ‘Speak for the Earth’, a documentary showcasing the varied efforts of Tata companies to help preserve the planet, was screened to lend greater focus to the topic and provide a stimulus to the students to think. Accompanying this documentary was an audiovisual on the Tata Building India. Following the screening of these inspirational films, children from Class 6 to Class 12 were asked to write an essay on the theme of the year in their respective language. To ensure a level playing field, the entry of the students was at two levels - Junior Level for Classes 6 to 8 and Senior Level for Classes 9 to 12. The essays were judged on parameters like relevance to the topic, structure, creativity and communication of the idea. The essay is written by the child only once and is evaluated at three levels. Firstly, these essays were shortlisted at the School level by the teachers, and thereafter evaluated through a panel of independent local academia/journalists to declare City Level winners. Finally, at the National/state level (for regional languages), an eminent panel of judges from the fields of media &amp; academia assessed the essays of the city winners to determine the final national/state winners. The winners at each level were rewarded and recognized by the Tata group and special functions were held to felicitate them.
